Industrial Hygiene

Industrial Hygiene (Worker Safety)

Industrial Hygiene includes recognizing, assessing, and controlling environmental, physical, and chemical hazards in the workplace that could compromise employees' health and well-being. Examples of hazards include volatile organic compounds, noise, respirable dust, mold, and allergens. Testing can be performed to investigate a complaint, or to confirm regulatory compliance. The purpose of testing will be used to determine whether a personal sample or area sample should be collected. Depending on the parameter, direct-read instruments or laboratory analysis is used to obtain results. Results are then compared with Permissible Exposure Levels (PEL) set by OSHA (as applicable).
